The donation was made possible thanks to a contribution from Age Concern Ibiza and Formentera, which has been active on the island for over twenty years
The Anglican Church of Ibiza has donated €4,500 to the charity Ibiza y Formentera Contra el Cáncer (IFCC), thanks to a contribution from Age Concern Ibiza and Formentera. After more than two decades of service, Age Concern Ibiza and Formentera has now closed its operations on the island, donating its remaining funds raised through various charity events to the Anglican Church to be directed towards local social causes. This gesture of support for people affected by cancer in the Pitiusas reaffirms the commitment that both Age Concern and the Anglican Church have maintained towards the local community over the years.
Jayne Bamber, a volunteer at Age Concern Ibiza and Formentera, explained that following the closure of their local branch, they decided to distribute the remaining funds to various associations and individuals across the islands through the Anglican Church of Ibiza, with whom they have collaborated closely over the years. The funds have been donated to charitable entities such as Ibiza y Formentera Contra el Cáncer (IFCC) and the Alzheimer’s Association of Ibiza and Formentera (AFAEF). She noted that “a lot of people contributed to fundraising, and we want them to know that this money has been put to good use, going to organisations that truly need it.”
Elizabeth Gail Fear, President of IFCC, expressed her gratitude for this gesture, highlighting the mutual support that exists among local Ibizan charities and stating that “through collaboration, we can keep various charitable initiatives alive and help improve the quality of life for residents in Ibiza.” The Alzheimer’s Association of Ibiza and Formentera (AFAEF) also thanked the Anglican Church for “helping us to overcome forgetfulness.”
Ibiza y Formentera Contra el Cáncer
Ibiza y Formentera Contra el Cáncer has been supporting patients and their families in the Pitiusas for 23 years, providing assistance during cancer treatments, supplying medical equipment, distributing information leaflets, and funding travel and treatments outside the islands. In recent years, it has donated 26 reclining chairs for oncology patients at Can Misses Hospital, as well as televisions and headphones for the chemotherapy ward in this key healthcare centre for Ibiza and Formentera.
Thanks to donations from its numerous members and the charity events it organises, IFCC has funded specialised chairs for the oncology and radiotherapy departments, with more to be added in 2024. It has also contributed to the decoration of the oncology nursing consultation room and the Palliative Care Unit, purchased an endoscope for the Formentera Hospital, and launched colon cancer and lymphedema screening projects in the Pitiusas, in addition to several vehicles for the Palliative Care Unit. This year, it will also finance a new vehicle for this unit and promote a campaign across the islands to increase participation in colon cancer screening, which was just 38% in 2023.
